“You may fool all the people some of the time, you can even fool some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time”. – Abraham Lincoln

We wanted to start this bulletin with that phrase of Abraham Lincoln because as we stated in our bulletin number 37, today a great lack of real politicians prevails in the world, of politicians who really commit themselves to the people and of politicians who feel proud to serve their citizens. As citizens, we are tired of the false politicians who want to feel important but not useful, as Sir Winston Churchil said. It seems that today being a politician is associated with deception, robbery and corruption. The fall of Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva should not be taken lightly in those countries where similar acts have been committed but rather should be a great wake-up call to get ahead of tomorrow doing things right today. However, there are things that can no longer be hidden like the case of Odebrecht and its acts of corruption in Mexico between December 2013 and the end of 2014. During this period, the Brazilian company bribed Mexican officials with at least more than 100 million pesos at the current exchange rate to obtain millionaire contracts in the government of Enrique Peña Nieto and in the governments of Fidel Herrera and Javier Duarte. Considering the sentence for Lula, what could Mexican citizens expect to happen to corrupt officials involved not only in the Odebrecht case but also in many others? Is this another case where there will simply be no consequences? If that were to happen, we are facing a great offense for the people of Mexico.

On the other hand, myself Dr. Botello had the opportunity to be in the UK last week and a subject that is gaining a lot of force under the Brexit is that of immigration and all the angles that the problem has. We must consider that currently 3 million citizens of the European Union live and that they have not been given any guarantees so far to permanently reside in the United Kingdom but the consensus appears to be, however, that Theresa May is unlikely to follow through with the implicit threat of deporting EU nationals from the UK after Brexit, that means no massive deportations as Trump´s government. However, the immigrants are not so calm as they could expect a complicated process but are not alone as some churches have decided to offer shelter to those who need it.
